Job Summary:

The Construction Electrical Technician is responsible for assisting with or independently performing various electrical system installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting in an industrial or high-tech building environment. This role spans from basic material handling and installation support to independently executing complex electrical tasks, overseeing field work, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Material Handling & Preparation: Organize and prepare materials such as conduit, cable tray, wire spools, fittings, and electrical boxes. Assist with wire pulls and termination preparation.
  • Electrical System Installation: Assist with or independently install various conduit systems (EMT, PVC, RMC, flex). Install and secure junction boxes, panels, and equipment. Perform cable pulls, wire routing, and execute terminations at panels, junction boxes, and equipment.
  • Drawing Interpretation & Layout: Learn or skillfully interpret single-line diagrams, panel schedules, installation drawings, and control circuit diagrams. Perform layout and mark according to drawings and field measurements.
  • Safe & Tidy Work Practices: Strictly adhere to electrical safety guidelines, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and energized work limitations. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are secure. Observe and learn safe and efficient techniques.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation: Learn or perform torque procedures and document connections. Assist with daily progress reports, tagging of wires and equipment, and assist with redline markups and as-built verification.
  • Field Coordination & Leadership (for advanced levels): Coordinate with foremen, project management teams, and other trades to ensure smooth work progression. Oversee field installation work and provide guidance to junior technicians and apprentices.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Specific experience in electrical preferred. (Experience requirements will vary based on specific technician level hired for).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Possess basic mechanical aptitude and tool handling skills.
    • Understanding of electrical PPE, arc flash hazards, and proper tool usage.
    • Familiarity with wire types, insulation ratings, and color coding.
    • Knowledge of installation tolerances, bend radii, and conduit support spacing.
    • Ability to pass project-specific safety orientation and electrical hazard awareness training, as well as LOTO training.
    • (For advanced levels) Proficient in all phases of electrical system installation, possess an in-depth understanding of NEC standards and project electrical installation standards, and capable of reading complex electrical drawings (power, control, fire alarm, etc.).
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Ability to learn from drawings and observe layout markings.
    • High attention to detail and strict adherence to safe work habits.
    • (For advanced levels) Ability to lead small tasks and coordinate within a team.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move materials, work on ladders/lifts, and stand for extended periods.

Shift Expectations:

TSMC Arizona operates 24/7. This position requires candidates to be available and willing to work any shift (day or night) on a compressed work week schedule upon completion of training. The compressed work week schedule is 4 days on/3 days off one week and 3 days on/4 days off the following week. Shifts are 12 hours, from 6 AM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 6 AM.
