Job Summary:
TSMC Arizona is seeking dedicated and skilled Construction Process Piping Technicians at various experience levels to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical semiconductor process piping systems, including Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), plastic, gas, and chemical delivery systems. Depending on your experience level, you may assist senior technicians, work independently, or lead teams in ensuring the precise and compliant setup of piping infrastructure within our advanced cleanroom environments. This is a vital role in supporting the continuous operation of our state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Install and maintain semiconductor process piping systems (UPW, plastic, gas, chemical), ensuring proper routing, secure connections, and strict adherence to cleanroom contamination protocols.
- Perform pipe cutting, threading, and joining using various techniques such as welding, brazing, and compression fittings.
- Read and accurately interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for semiconductor equipment installation.
- Assist with or independently conduct leak testing, pressure testing, and inspections to verify the functionality and safety of piping systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during tool installation, including utility alignment, leak detection, and performance verification.
- Perform material handling, basic equipment setup, and workspace cleanup in compliance with stringent safety and cleanliness standards.
- Maintain accurate records of piping installations and inspections for project documentation.
- Collaborate with other trades (e.g., mechanical piping, electrical, HVAC) and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of systems.
- Participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction to develop technical skills and knowledge specific to semiconductor facilities.
- For experienced candidates, responsibilities will include leading teams, coordinating solutions for material shortages, monitoring installation quality, planning daily activities, providing mentorship, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Specific experience in process piping installation and maintenance preferred. (Experience requirements will vary based on specific technician level hired for).
- Technical Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to the technical requirements of the semiconductor industry.
- Ability to follow cleanroom protocols.
- Proficiency in process piping installation, including routing and securing pipes (level of proficiency depends on role).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics (level of proficiency depends on role).
- Competency in various pipe joining techniques (welding, brazing, compression fittings).
- Familiarity with semiconductor cleanroom standards and process piping installation protocols.
- (For advanced levels) Advanced knowledge of gas, chemical, plastic, UPW line installation and pressure testing; risk assessment and mitigation for hazardous materials; leadership and organizational skills; advanced troubleshooting.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent Communication and Listening skills.
- Strong Teamwork ethic.
- For higher levels: Experience in leading a crew is preferred.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift equipment and tools, sometimes up to 35 pounds or more with assistance for heavier items.
- Ability to work on ladders/lifts and in tight spaces.
- Standing or walking for significant portions of the workday.
- Frequent grasping, manipulation, and occasional twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, or reaching.
- Training: Ability to travel overseas for extended training periods (length depends on business needs).
- International Projects: Willingness to support international projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Welding / Brazing certification.
- Experience in a semiconductor cleanroom environment.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or management role for more senior positions.
Shift Expectations:
TSMC Arizona operates 24/7, 365 days a year. This position requires candidates to have the ability and willingness to work any shift (day or night) in a compressed work week schedule once training is complete. The compressed work week shift structure is: Work 4 days on, 3 days off for one week, and 3 days on, 4 days off the next week. Each shift is 12 hours, from 6 AM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 6 AM. Scheduled night shifts and weekend on-call rotations are part of our 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment. Night shift rotations are expected to be no more than 4 months per calendar year. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday during initial training.
