Mechanical Piping Technician I

  • The Mechanical Piping Technician I works under the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor to assist in installing and maintaining mechanical piping systems, including EXH, PCW, & piping support systems. Key responsibilities include cutting, threading, joining pipes (using welding, brazing, or mechanical coupling techniques), reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, troubleshooting installation issues, performing material handling, equipment setup and cleanup, and collaborating with other systems like electrical, process piping, and building infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor to assist in installing and maintaining mechanical piping systems, ensuring proper routing, secure connections, and compliance with safety standards and mechanical codes.
  • Perform tasks such as cutting, threading, and joining pipes using techniques like welding, brazing, mechanical coupling, and compression fittings under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to ensure proper installation, routing, and system functionality.
  • Perform material handling, equipment setup, and cleanup while adhering to safety protocols and cleanliness standards at job sites.
  • Support pressure testing, leak testing, and system inspections to ensure the safety and proper operation of mechanical piping systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of piping installations, inspections, and testing as directed by the supervisor or project lead.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical piping issues during installation, including misalignments, system leaks, and performance verification.
  • Collaborate with other systems (electrical, structural, process piping, building infrastructure) under supervision to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within the project scope.
  • Follow strict safety protocols and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and mechanical piping codes.

 

  • Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • 3 years of mechanical piping installation and maintenance experience
    • OSHA 30 certification  
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in installing and maintaining mechanical piping systems, including routing, securing connections, and ensuring system functionality.
    • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and construction documents.
    • Competency in joining techniques, including welding, brazing, and mechanical coupling.
    • Knowledge of HVAC or utility piping standards and installation procedures.
    • Familiarity with semiconductor cleanroom standards and mechanical piping installation protocols.
    • Willingness to support international projects.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Capable of lifting materials, working on ladders/lifts, and standing for long periods of time
  • Training:
    • Ability to travel to overseas for training for extended periods (length depends on business needs).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Welding / Brazing certification

 

Shift Expectations:

  • TSMC Arizona operates 24/7, 365 days a year. This position requires candidate to have ability and willingness to work any shift (day or night) in a compressed work week schedule once training is done. The compressed work week shift structure is Work 4 days on, 3 days off for one week and 3 days on, 4 days off the next week.  Shift is 12 hour shifts from 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am.
