Director/Deputy Director

Overview of Role

A global pioneer in the semiconductor foundry industry since 1987, TSMC drives innovation that powers the world. TSMC North America is our regional sales and services organization, helping customers achieve silicon success through cutting-edge technology and manufacturing excellence.

We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic Director/Deputy Director to lead within our Field Technical Solutions (FTS) team in San Jose, CA. In this pivotal leadership role, you will lead a team and own key customer accounts, serving as the critical technical bridge between TSMC’s process technology and our customers’ design teams. Leveraging deep technical expertise, you will understand complex customer challenges and collaboratively drive solutions that keep every tape-out on time and first-time-right. As a trusted advisor to engineering, program management, and executive stakeholders, you will partner with sales teams and TSMC Headquarters in Taiwan, help shape segment strategy, and build the durable customer and HQ relationships that keep our customers at the forefront of innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team and own key customer accounts, including end-to-end tape-out responsibility.
  • Serve as the technical bridge between TSMC process technology and customer design teams, advising engineering, program management, and executive stakeholders.
  • Drive cross-functional programs and help shape segment and program strategy across FTS, Account Management, R&D, and Design Enablement.
  • Partner with Account Management to protect and grow revenue while coordinating with TSMC HQ in Taiwan.
  • Build strong customer, HQ, and team relationships; mentor the team into high-performing collaborators and resolve complex technical issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Approximately 15+ years in semiconductor technology development, applications, FTS/FAE, or program management, including customer-facing work.
  • Deep technical expertise in advanced logic and/or process technology, with the ability to hold credibility with both HQ R&D and sophisticated design customers.
  • Proven leadership of teams and ownership of complex accounts or programs, with results and references that evidence strong influence.
  • Willingness to travel—about 4–6 trips per year to Taiwan plus potential domestic travel—and to coordinate daily with TSMC HQ across time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant technical discipline and ~20 years across technical and customer-facing roles at the senior/leadership level.
  • Experience bridging design, process, and manufacturing teams and aligning roadmaps across functions and geographies.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, IC design; familiarity with advanced technology nodes and product families.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and integrity, with the executive presence to influence senior stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 90 days: Build trusted relationships with customers, HQ, and your team, and get up to speed on your accounts and their tape-out priorities.
  • Six months: Independently own your key accounts, coordinate effectively with HQ, and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • One year: Deliver strong customer satisfaction, durable HQ relationships, a high-performing team, and contributions to segment strategy.
