Principal Engineer, Thermal Management and Solutions (5504)

Overview of Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic R&D engineer to join our Corporate Research team in San Jose, CA. The Principal Engineer for Thermal Management and Solutions will be responsible for exploring the thermal solutions to address the heat dissipation in advanced chips and 3D IC. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with the internal teams in San Jose and Taiwan and external world-class researchers in universities, and to be at the forefront of research and development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and shape the direction of process development and integration for this exciting field. You will report to the Senior Manager in Corporate Research. We are currently operating in a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in office. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Thermal characterization, simulation, and data analysis.
  • Study heat dissipation in micro- and nanoscales.
  • Explore new material and their integration for thermal solutions in high performance ICs.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external collaborators.
  • Conduct work at in-house and off-site facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in a relevant field such as Physics, Material Science, Chemistry or Electrical Engineering.
  • Deep knowledge of heat transfer in materials and interfaces.
  • Experience in thermal property characterization.
  • Experience in thermal simulation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in optical thermal conductivity measurement tools such as FDTR and TDTR.
  • Experience in one or more of physics-based simulation tools.
  • Experience in setting up research equipment and programming on tool control and data collection.
  • Experience in thermal analysis at device, chip, or package level.
  • Experience in material processing and device fabrication.

Pay Transparency / Benefits statement

At TSMC, your base pay is only part of your overall total compensation package. At the time of this posting, this role typically pays a base salary between $128,500 and $175,000 per year. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires. Actual pay may be more or less than the posted range. Factors that influence pay include the individual's skills, qualifications, education, experience and the position level and location.  TSMC’s total compensation package consists of market competitive pay, allowances, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits.
